The Ministry of Coal has reported extraordinary achievements under Special Campaign 6, cleaning 2,035 sites, which is 130% of its target of 1,565, and clearing over 14.84 million square feet of area, surpassing the planned 10.18 million square feet by 146%. These accomplishments reflect the Ministry's commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and promoting sustainable practices in resource management.
Record-Breaking Achievements in Site Cleaning
The Ministry's efforts have led to a significant transformation in site management, with a total of 2,035 sites cleaned. This achievement not only exceeds the initial target but also highlights the Ministry's proactive approach towards environmental sustainability. The area cleared, amounting to over 14.84 million square feet, demonstrates a robust commitment to maintaining cleanliness and operational efficiency in coal mining regions.
In addition to physical site cleaning, the Ministry has also excelled in addressing public grievances. It recorded a perfect 100% disposal rate, resolving all 253 public grievances and clearing 52 references from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). This level of responsiveness is indicative of the Ministry's dedication to transparency and accountability in governance.
Scrap Disposal Success and Financial Gains
The scrap disposal initiative has proven to be equally successful, with the Ministry achieving 162% of its target. A total of 17,686 metric tons of scrap were disposed of, far exceeding the target of 10,909 metric tons. This initiative generated a remarkable revenue of ₹61.41 crore, showcasing the financial viability of effective waste management practices.
The revenue generated from scrap disposal not only contributes to the Ministry's financial health but also reinforces the importance of sustainable resource management. By turning waste into wealth, the Ministry is setting a precedent for other public sector enterprises (CPSEs) to follow.
Innovative Practices in Waste Management
The Ministry of Coal has also embraced innovative practices to enhance its waste management strategies. Notable initiatives include the construction of a working model of the Paste-Fill Mining System at the Singhali Underground Mine in the Korba Area. This model, created from scrap materials, demonstrates how fly ash and industrial waste can be utilized to backfill mined voids, thereby enhancing structural stability and preventing land subsidence.
In the Kusmunda Area, employees constructed a replica of Tiger Hill, featuring soldier figures and the National Flag, to honor the sacrifices made by the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Vijay in the 1999 Kargil War. This initiative not only promotes waste reduction but also fosters a sense of pride and respect for the nation’s history among the workforce.
Additionally, the Bhatgaon Area introduced a 'Kabaad Se Jugaad' installation centered around a miner figure, advocating for waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable lifestyle practices. These creative installations serve as educational tools, promoting environmental awareness among employees and the community.
Streamlining Operations and Enhancing Efficiency
The Ministry has made significant strides in streamlining its operational processes. During the campaign, a total of 179,793 physical and electronic files were reviewed, far exceeding the target of 59,593. The Ministry successfully weeded out and closed 170,336 files, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and reducing bureaucratic delays.
This comprehensive review process not only improves the Ministry's operational capabilities but also ensures that resources are utilized effectively. The Ministry's commitment to administrative reform is further evidenced by its extensive social media outreach, which included 16,424 tweets and 38 PIB releases, aimed at keeping the public informed and engaged.
Commitment to Governance Excellence
Through these extensive clean-up operations, innovative waste-to-wealth initiatives, and robust administrative reforms, the Ministry of Coal has set a high standard for public sector efficiency and sustainability. The combination of record-breaking physical achievements with creative employee welfare and environmental practices underscores the Ministry's steadfast commitment to governance excellence, resource optimization, and the broader goals of Swachh Bharat.
The success of Special Campaign 6 not only reflects the Ministry's operational capabilities but also serves as a model for other government departments and public sector enterprises. By prioritizing cleanliness, efficiency, and innovation, the Ministry of Coal is paving the way for a more sustainable and accountable future in resource management.
